Writing a resume for the retail industry comes with its own unique set of challenges. The more retail experience you have, the more you have to talk about. And do you have management experience on top of that? The hardest part about writing your new resume is then knowing when to quit. After all, you don’t want to intimidate the reader by giving them a novel to read. Instead, you only want to highlight your most relevant and notable managerial achievements, leaving out the impertinent details (which can be addressed later in the interview if need be).
Here are some important things to emphasize when writing a resume for the Retail industry:
- How much experience do you have in customer service?
- Have you hired, trained, and/or mentored employees?
- Have you overseen departmental budgets?
- Have you achieved sales or operational quotas and benchmarks?
- Have you participated in merchandising and product display setup?
- Have you communicated with retail vendors in the past?
Another crucial piece of advice for writing a resume for retails is this: focus on the employers needs, not your own. Relate your previous experiences in a way that exemplifies your versatility and commitment to the bottom line. You need to make sure and show value by giving the hiring manager what they want to see.
